Renowned community leader and founder of Hokima Cricket Academy in Marondera, Kudzai Mutiti has described receiving the Outstanding Brand in Community Development Through Sport award at the Emerging Brand Awards as a "call to greater responsibility, vowing to use the recognition as a catalyst for deeper social transformation across Zimbabwe.

Accepting the accolade, Mutiti emphasised that while the award is a humbling milestone, it serves primarily as a validation of the long-term, "seed-to-harvest" approach required to build sustainable community systems.

“Winning the Outstanding Brand in Community Development Through Sport award in South Africa is both humbling and deeply motivating for me.

“It’s a powerful reminder that the work we are doing is not only being seen, but is also making a real impact in people’s lives and communities. This award is a reflection of seeds that were planted long ago with passion, faith, and persistence,” Mutiti said.

Mutiti attributed the success to years of persistent effort, noting that the impact seen today is the result of foundations laid long ago through grassroots mentoring and the creation of sports-based opportunities.

"The small, consistent efforts we plant today—whether it's mentoring a young athlete or organising community programmes—will eventually bear fruit," Mutiti said.

Far from viewing the award as a final destination, Mutiti signalled a shift toward scaling existing initiatives.

The focus will now move toward building sustainable systems designed to empower the next generation of athletes and community leaders.

“It (the award) also motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and to never settle.

“Recognition like this is not the destination, but a call to greater responsibility. It challenges me to expand the vision, uplift more lives, and build sustainable systems that empower the next generation,” said the Hokima Cricket Academy founder.

Reflecting on the collaborative nature of community work, Mutiti dedicated the recognition to the partners and supporters who have anchored the journey, reinforcing the belief that "no meaningful impact is ever achieved alone."

“I am also reminded of the importance of teamwork and community. No meaningful impact is ever achieved alone. This recognition belongs to every individual, partner, and supporter who has believed in the vision and contributed to the journey,” he said.

“I am also deeply grateful to my father, Douglas Mutiti, for believing in his vision from the very first word. His confidence in me inspired me to be someone who serves his community.

“Above all, this moment reinforces my purpose—to use sport as a tool for transformation, unity, and hope. The journey continues, and the best is yet to come.”
