THE too many injuries, which were sustained during the Chibuku Super Cup final have raised murmurs of strong juju at play in the November 29 match at Gibbo Stadium.

Those who know it better claim that whenever there is a collision of strong juju, the players are at risk and some even get injured to the extent of never returning to the field again.

The question is : Was there juju at play in that Chibuku Super Cup final between Dynamos and Triangle ?

Was the serious injury of Dynamos goalkeeper, Prince Tafiremutsa, a result of the juju that was on collision at Gibbo on that warm Saturday afternoon?

Tafiremutsa was ferried to hospital after being injured in a collision as he went for the ball.

What of Triangle playmaker Munashe Bamara? The pint sized influential midfielder was pulled off the field of play after aggravating an injury, which we are told  will sideline him for months.

That is not the end of it. Dynamos captain Emmanuel Jalai too had to force himself to finish the game after sustaining an injury that saw him briefly excused for Warriors duty.

Those who were there will surely testify that now and then, the referee was forced to stop play to attend to continuous player injuries.

As the juju discussion continues: What exactly was there in the balls which the two teams wanted either to be used or not to be used as the game's match ball ?

Dynamos were refusing that Triangle balls be used as the match balls, while the Sugar Sugar Boys on their part, did not want Dynamos balls to be used either.

The game was delayed for about 20 minutes as the teams refused to play using match balls provided by the opposition on suspicion that the balls had been 'cooked' in muti.

On that premise, can we conclude that the Dynamos black magic proved a bit stronger to that of Triangle after they won 1-0?

What happened on that day was a bad advertisement of the Zimbabwean game but a lesson to the tournament organisers — the Premier Soccer League — that they should not overlook small things like providing match balls for a cup final.

There, however, is no agreement as to whether juju really works in football although those who practice it claim it has been very beneficial.

If that is the case, why then do clubs spend lots of money acquiring new players and top coaches and paying them huge salaries when they can simply pick 11 ordinary men from the streets and let juju do the rest?

The Washington Navaya shocker

When Kelvin Moyo's name was called out as the runner up for the Castle Soccer Star of the Year Award, Dynamos followers began to celebrate anticipating what was to come next.

To them, Moyo was the only competitor to their own Emmanuel Jalai for the top individual award in Zimbabwean football but they were all wrong.

As the events unfolded,  Jalai was not even among the top three players of the season and Washington Navaya of TelOne was taking the Castle Soccer Star of the Year Award to Gweru.

Many were stunned by the announcement as Navaya was not even among the players they had tipped for the top three placing with that honour belonging to Moyo  and Emmanuel Ziocha of Simba Bhora.

Even the huge Scottland contingent that had come in support of a Moyo win were stunned and had to leave earlier than expected.

Such is football, it is full of surprises.

Leadership shake-up at Dynamos

A new leadership is set to be installed at Dynamos this week with businessman Vincent Chawonza taking over as club chairman.

Chawonza was the whole of last week seen in public in the company of Dynamos board chairman Benard Marriot as he familiarised himself with his new role.

The shake-up — we are told — will see everyone from the current leadership vacate their positions except Marriot's right hand-man Webster Marechera who will be retained as secretary general.

The Dynamos house needs strong rebuilding and word doing rounds is that the team is set to lose coach Kelvin Kaindu and Jalai who have set their sights elsewhere.

Surely, they might have won the Chibuku Super Cup and the Castle Challenge in 2025 but with the current squad, Dynamos will in 2026 not be relegation candidates but will surely be RELEGATED.
