Poor finishing was the order of the day as Dynamos failed to punish a sluggish Chicken Inn in a lukewarm Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday afternoon.
Dembare had the Gamecocks on the ropes for the better part of the game but their forwards chose to disappoint the sizeable crowd that witnessed the lackluster encounter.
It was Dynamos’ fifth draw of the campaign in nine matches as they remain in the bottom half of the log standings.
The result piles more pressure on coach Genesis Mangombe whose side has failed to be consistent in their bid for a first league title in 10 years.
But Mangombe chose to focus on the positives after his defence kept a clean sheet.
"It's unfortunate we are not clinical in front of goal. I think we got better chances than the opponent and overall we played very well, save for missing those chances. I am happy that we were organised at the back and didn't concede,” said Mangombe.
Dynamos started brightly and in the 10th minute, Emmanuel Paga's overhead kick drew the best of Bernard after Kadonzvo had dribbled past Arthur Chinda and set it up for the Ghanaian import.
This was the best chance of the first half.
The two teams went to the break deadlocked and appeared to be satisfied with the goalless affair.
After the resumption of the second half, Ziocha watched in disbelief as his powerful strike destined for the top corner agonisingly missed the target.
A moment of controversy ensued in the 58th minute after Brian Muza was pulled down by Moyo who was the last man in the Dynamos defence but the referee produced only a yellow card for the Dembare skipper.
Dynamos fans were up on their feet in the 89th minute expecting a goal when substitute Freddy Aleck was sent through on goal. His attempt to beat the goalkeeper on the nearside went horribly wrong, disappointing the Dembare supporters.
Chicken Inn coach Joe Antipas credited Donovan for the point gained as felt his side never came to the party.
“We were lucky to come out with a point. Dynamos had clearer and better chances (than us). But we will not say no to that point. We didn't play our normal game because we usually build it from the back going forward. But today the guys were a bit jittery. We were just playing long balls," said Antipas.
