THE ZIFA Central Region Soccer League has announced that it's 2024 season is set to kick off early in April.

The announcement was made during the league's annual general meeting which was held on Saturday in Gweru.

Plausibly, they have also seen an increase in the number of teams, having operated with 14 teams in the last two seasons.

This season, 18 teams will be fighting for the coveted promotion ticket.

Masvingo based Wangu Mazodze expanded into the Central Region, after forming Wangu Mazodze City which is based in Kwekwe.

In addition, they retained their US$25 000 sponsorship deal for the season. Central Region chairman Patrick Hill confirmed the development.

"We resolved to start this season in April. We will start on the 6th, and we are having 18 teams.

"But we are trying to avoid having teams withdrawing before the season ends," Hill said.

"Last season, we had teams like Loss Control withdrawing before the season ended. So we set a target that all new teams must pay the affiliation fee by 1 March.

"We also managed to retain our sponsorship and we hope to get more sponsors coming on board.

"Its promising to be exciting and I am hopeful that we will have stronger competition, with the return of Sheasham also expected to inspire more competition."
