Highlanders have put the midweek Independence Cup glory behind them to focus on their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture against Yadah FC at the National Sports Stadium today.

Bosso come into the match basking in confidence after defeating rivals Dynamos 5-3 in penalty shootouts to retain the Uhuru Cup.

Bosso beat their hosts 3-0 in their last meeting in September last year, ending their 32-match winless run outside of Bulawayo dating back to July 22, 2018.

“Our players are focused and we can’t sleep on the boost of confidence from the cup game, that is now in the past and we should approach this game as a new challenge,” Bosso gaffer Baltermar Brito told journalists yesterday.

“The boost of confidence is good but we need a boost of reality that there is a game that is coming and we need to collect the points.”

Yadah are positioned 10th on the table with seven points.

“Yadah’s position on the log shows that they are very competitive and tomorrow (today) it will be their fifth time playing at the National Sports Stadium, so they are used to the pitch.

“They have been picking up points and we need to create a fighting spirit that we exhibited in the cup game. They are a young and very talented team and we need to try to collect three points. We can’t relax because we won a cup, that’s past and history for the team, now we need to fight for the next set of three points.

“We are taking each game as it comes and we are improving. The league is a marathon and we are in game four which is the fourth kilometre, we are getting there.”

Bosso are on a four-match unbeaten run this season and are fourth, a point above their hosts after two wins and two draws.

Their league match against Dynamos which was supposed to have been played at Barbourfields on Saturday was shelved at the directive of the government so that the teams could focus on the Independence Cup.

The rescheduling of the match incensed Brito, who felt his team had picked up momentum over the last few weeks.
