President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday commended businessman Wicknell Chivayo for his 'philanthropic activities, saying he will receive more blessings for giving “abundantly.”
Mnangagwa also praised Johane Masowe the Fifth congregants for their culture of giving, singling out Chivayo for his charitable works and encouraging believers to continue acts of generosity.
He said those who give abundantly would also receive blessings enabling them to continue supporting others.
Addressing members of the apostolic sect at Gwanzura Stadium in Harare, Mnangagwa expressed gratitude to the church community, particularly Chivayo, whom he described as an elder within the religious community because of his extensive charitable activities.
"To all of you from Johane Masowe the Fifth, I want to thank you, especially your elder, Wicknell Chivayo, for his works of giving. Remain the same," he said.
"If you continue giving, you will also be blessed and receive the means to continue giving.
"If you do not give, you will not be blessed or receive gifts. Continue to give abundantly, and you will be blessed abundantly."
Chivayo has over the years attracted attention for donating luxury vehicles, cash and other goods to individuals, churches and community groups.
His donations have included vehicles to church leaders, support for religious gatherings, and contributions to various socialites earning him praise from beneficiaries who view his actions as demonstrations of compassion and faith.
In March, Mnangagwa described Chivhayo as having a ‘golden heart’ after he donated 10 ambulances and 200 000 litres of fuel worth over US$400 000 to the government. The president has previously denied allegations that the businessman is fronting his business interests.
He said those that claimed that Chivayo was splashing ill-gotten wealth to open a criminal case against him.
