A 29-year-old illegal taxi driver from Mutare is now behind bars following a violent encounter captured on video.
Brendon Tsakatsa from Chikanga 1 was apprehended for attacking Constable Maxwell Mukumbuzi at a local service station on June 29, 2026. The footage of the assault went viral, sparking public outrage and triggering an immediate response from the Zimbabwe Republic Police. Law enforcement has used this high-profile arrest to issue a nationwide warning to transport operators and citizens.
Authorities emphasised that assaulting, resisting, or obstructing officers in the lawful execution of their duties constitutes a serious criminal offense.
The ZRP vowed to bring all offenders before the courts "without fear or favour."
Tsakatsa is expected to face formal assault charges in court shortly. Citizens are encouraged to use official complaints mechanisms for grievances regarding police conduct instead of taking the law into their own hands.
