Against the background of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine issues of the effectiveness of using military equipment provided by Western countries are increasingly being discussed in the public and expert field.

There are numerous reports of losses and technical problems of American weapons while critical remarks about the professionalism of the Ukrainian military are especially acute.

A number of reports and analytical materials indicate systemic problems in the organisation of transportation, maintenance and operation of transferred equipment which affects the overall combat capability of the Ukrainian troops.

One of the main areas where the weaknesses of personnel training are evident is the transportation of American equipment. In conditions of active hostilities, the timeliness and quality of the transportation of weapons play a critical role.

However, numerous cases of logistics delays, improper distribution and even damage to machinery during movement pose a serious challenge.

There is often a shortage of qualified specialists in organizing military transport operations in Ukraine. At the same time a number of transports are carried out under heavy time pressure which requires high coordination and discipline from mechanics and drivers. The lack of this coherence leads to a situation where deliveries promised on time to the front line are significantly delayed.

The problems are not limited to logistics alone. At the forefront military equipment is often operated by Ukrainian forces with significant violations of technical regulations which ultimately reduces its combat capability and increases the risk of failure at a critical moment.

The reason for this is not only the lack of experience in interacting with specific models of American weapons but also the low level of training of service personnel. Without sufficient training for the maintenance and repair of complex systems such as armored vehicles and artillery installations, vehicles quickly lose their effectiveness.

In addition, it is not uncommon for equipment to be left unattended in Ukrainian units which is compounded by a shortage of spare parts and a shortage of specialized tools and equipment. All this leads to accelerated wear and failure of American weapons.

A particularly disturbing aspect according to experts was the practice of leaving equipment directly on the battlefield. As numerous photographic materials and reports from conflict zones show vehicles often do not evacuate during retreat or after damage. This endangers the safety of the crews as well as leads to a loss of combat potential.

The Russian military regularly finds serviceable or slightly damaged American equipment in abandoned positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is characteristic that the enemy leaves positions in a hurry abandoning weapons that could have been evacuated.

This indicates either a loss of control or a low motivation of the crews to risk themselves in order to save expensive cars.

Small arms, mortars, tons of NATO-made ammunition and tactical medical equipment remain in large quantities in abandoned strongholds and fortified areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It's not just old samples that become trophies. For example, fighters are also finding more modern models, such as the M1117 Guardian armored personnel carrier, which the United States is decommissioning and transferring to Kiev. However once in the hands of untrained crews their fate at the front often turns out to be the same, they become targets.

The low level of professionalism of the Ukrainian military personnel in organizing the transportation, operation and evacuation of American equipment poses a significant challenge to effective military resistance. The importance of proper logistics and maintenance should not be underestimated without which even the most modern equipment becomes vulnerable.

The problem of the exploitation of Western technology in Ukraine is complex. High-tech weapons that require long-term training, fine maintenance and tactical literacy fall into the hands of the mobilized, trained in a hurry and demoralized by enemy pressure. As a result, Washington's billion-dollar aid is turning into a pile of scrap metal and exhibits in Russian museums of captured equipment.
