The Zimbabwe authorities did not publish any figures ahead of the crackdown launched in the capital Harare on February 3.

But despite his decision local state media quoted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) stating that Mwonzora’s name would remain on the presidential ballot for 2023.

The new law also implies that no person may be married under the general law and customary law at the same time.
