The Zodwa Mkandla Foundation (Tsalak) is set to host its annual charity golf day on February 19 at Newlands Country Club, with Vice President Kembo Mohadi expected to grace the event as guest of honor. Last year’s edition at the Royal Harare Golf Club earned wide acclaim for raising funds to support underprivileged youth, people with disabilities, and vulnerable teenage mothers.
Building on that success, this year’s tournament promises to be bigger and better, drawing an expanded pool of stakeholders and golfers — from Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, Namibia, and across Zimbabwe’s provinces — united by a shared commitment to uplift communities and transform lives.
The golf day has quickly become a fixture on Zimbabwe’s philanthropic calendar. Businesswoman and philanthropist Zodwa Mkandla explained that the Foundation’s mission is to mobilize local resources to solve local problems. “We cannot always wait for foreign grants to rescue us. Our communities must rise to the occasion and invest in their own future,” Mkandla said, highlighting ZMF’s deliberate shift away from dependency on international donors.
The Foundation’s work is anchored on four strategic pillars, each reflected in the golf day’s fundraising agenda:
Education – Be Best Campaign: Scholarships for talented but underprivileged students, ensuring that financial hardship does not block academic excellence.
Women Empowerment: Skills training and income-generating initiatives for teenage mothers to help them reintegrate into society with hope and opportunity. Partnered with Munondida Foundation.

Disability Support: Provision of electric wheelchairs and other assistance to restore dignity and mobility to people living with disabilities.
Entrepreneurial Accelerator Programs: Supporting entrepreneurs—especially women and youth—through training, mentorship, and resources to start and grow successful businesses.
By rallying corporate leaders, community members, and ordinary citizens, the Zodwa Mkandla Foundation (Tsalak) is redefining philanthropy in Zimbabwe. The Foundation’s approach underscores that social responsibility is not optional — it is an obligation. Its founder, Zodwa Mkandla, driven by compassion, established the organization with a clear vision: to change lives, foster social cohesion, and create opportunities where they are most needed. One corporate sponsor remarked, “This is not just charity, it’s investment in our own communities. By supporting ZMF, we are buying into a visionary’s dream.”
With Vice President Kembo Mohadi expected to tee off alongside other dignitaries and preside over the official opening, the 2026 edition of the ZMF Golf Day is set to make a lasting mark. In line with the Head of State’s vision of an inclusive and empowered Zimbabwe, the event embodies the national call to uplift the marginalized and ensure no one is left behind. Beyond the greens, the true triumph will be measured in transformed lives—girls who remain in school, people with disabilities who regain mobility, and teenage mothers who find renewed hope through empowerment projects.
Bernice Bore, Development Director of the Zodwa Mkandla Foundation, emphasized that the golf day is designed as an inclusive event, creating space for beneficiaries to mix and mingle with sponsors, fostering genuine connections and shared purpose.
