Zimbabwe’s teleport, satellite and network operator, Zodsat is bridging the digital divide between rural and urban communities by connecting Southern Africa’s remote locations with internet services through the utilisation of its VSAT network.

VSAT network offers global coverage regardless of location or topography and is an option for connecting to the internet in areas that do not have fibre internet and unreliable mobile internet.

Zodsat’s CEO Arnold Chimambo said the African continent consists of locations, which are very remote making it hard to receive clear internet coverage and their focus is to break down that digital divide in Zimbabwe and the Southern African region.

“Internet connectivity is an essential service and as Zodsat we are on a mission to bridge technological and connectivity dispersion between the rural and urban communities in the country and beyond,” said Chimambo.

“Our market focus is on providing essential VSAT and high fibre internet to connect homes, communities, and businesses across the country with our VSAT internet service, which even goes beyond urban, rural and remote Zimbabwe extending across Southern Africa.

“Most local farms, rural communities, schools, game parks, safaris and holiday resorts are located in areas that are outside fibre and cable zones and it is central to our business operations to provide internet services to such places.”

Zodsat has managed to connect several corporates, NGOs, game reserves, schools and mines.

Chimambo added that plans are underway to spread the foot to other parts of the region.

“We are continually expanding our VSAT Internet network to continue delivering connectivity experiences within the region of Southern Africa,” he said.

“To date, we have conducted installations in all the provinces of Zimbabwe and parts of Mozambique. There are planned expansions to Botswana, Malawi and Zambia by the end of 2021.”

Internet connectivity is proving to be essential to individuals and businesses these days of technological advancements especially during this pandemic where people are being encouraged to use digital platforms to access services and conduct businesses.

In 2019 the company partnered UAE-based global satellite broadband service provider, Yahsat to provide its customers in Zimbabwe with a tightly integrated offering and a tailor-made solution to accommodate changing demands and trends of the market.
