By Staff Writer THE Zimbabwe National Roads Authority’s (Zinara’s) chief executive officer Nkosinathi Ncube scooped the prestigious 2021 Director of the Year award in the State-Owned Enterprises and Parastatals category on Friday.
Zinara said the recognition was key to the entity given the parastatal’s past history of poor corporate governance practices that included payment of hair style allowances for female employees.
Gilfern Moyo, the parastatal’s administration and human resources director received the award conferred by the Institute of Directors of Zimbabwe (IODZ) on behalf of Ncube.
Corporate governance expert Muchadeyi Masunda who is the chairman of the IODZ adjudication committee said the calibre of all the contenders was of high quality.
“The quality of all the contenders was very good and it was difficult for us to arrive at the decision that we have made,” said Masunda.
Ncube, a tech expert by profession was honoured for his transformational leadership that has revolutionarised Zinara operations.

Under his leadership, Zinara now publishes all the disbursements that it makes to road authorities quarterly to ensure transparency and accountability.
Zinara has also set integrity committees recommended by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to help to fight corruption in state entities.
Moyo said the award was also in line with the institution’s rebranding drive.
“As Zinara, we resolved that 2022 is going to be a year of rebranding,” he said.
“Our rebranding is not focusing on changing logos and colours but the work culture at Zinara. This award is a clear testimony that the rebranding strategies that we are implementing are paying off.”
