BY STYLE REPORTER THE search for the curviest woman in Africa has begun with Harare Metropolitan and Manicaland provinces having conducted the auditions in recent weeks.
Organisers of the flagship Miss Curvy Africa confirmed that the pageant will happen this year following a four-year hiatus as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic coupled with financial challenges.
Miss Curvy Africa focuses on curvy models in two categories, thus those aged between 18 and 30 years as well as the 31 to 40 year-olds drawn from across the continent.
The pageant, which was introduced in 2014, saw curvy models drawn from 15 countries battling for honours at the showcase that was held at the Harare international Conference Centre.
To start the ball rolling for this year’s pageant running under the theme #Project Miss Curvy for Women Empowerment, the organisers recently held auditions in Harare and Mutare.
“We have so far conducted auditions in Harare Metropolitan and Manicaland provinces with our next port of call being Mashonaland West province,” said Mercy “Catwalk” Mushaninga, founder and patron of Miss Curvy Africa.

“The response was overwhelming in both provinces. In Harare 35 models came for the auditions and 13 made it to the semi finals while in six out of the 16 that attended qualified.
“We are moving to Chinhoyi next week for the Mashonaland West province auditions and we hope to complete all the provinces by July 10.”
She said the hospitality in Mutare was “out of this world.”
Mushaninga said the pageant was not only about searching for the curviest woman, but also about empowering women.
“We want to come up with a woman that can be empowered and willing to promote their country. It’s not about the curves only,” she said.
Mushaninga said 16 curvy models from Zimbabwe will take to the ramp for the local showcase before the continental event which will see five local finalists squaring off with models from other African countries.
