BY OWN CORRESPONDENT Gweru businesswoman Smelly Dube yesterday a hosted a party for orphaned children drawn from various wards in Shurugwi where she also distributed food hampers.

Dube, who owns River Valley Properties, handed food hampers to the 53 orphans at the party to celebrate her 53rd birthday, which was attended by three traditional leaders from Shurugwi, Nhema, Ndanga and Banga at Selukwe Primary School grounds in Shurugwi.

Dube said she decided to celebrate her birthday with those in need.

“When we receive blessings from God, we should remember that there are many people who are in need and we should be there for them,” Dube said.

“These children need us.

“Instead of going to celebrate my birthday with well to do business friends in hotels, I decided to celebrate it with the orphans. I want to see smiles on their faces.”

Speaking at the event, Megafest chief executive officer Tafadzwa Matsika praised Dube for helping the needy.

“I call her Mother Theresa or Mother Christmas, it’s her nature to give,” Matsika said.

“Dr Dube should be applauded for her social responsibility work. She is always ready to assist.

“She always make sure the shares the little she has with the needy.”

Dube  also donated US$1 000 to Hwahwa Prison.
