A Harare businessman has been dragged to court on allegations of defrauding the director of Cobra Security of US$76 000 in a botched vehicle imports deal.
Elias Murandu(37) appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo last week.
The complainant is Misheck Zvarivadza, the director of Cobra Security .
The court heard that Murandu allegedly misrepresented to Zvarivadza that he could facilitate the importation of a Range Rover, Toyota Hilux Legend 50 and Toyota Fortuner from South Africa at US$29 000, US$24 000 and US$23 000 respectively.
The complainant acted on the misrepresentation and paid a total of US$76 000 to Murandu using both cash and bank transfers.
Murandu never imported the motor vehicles, and kept giving empty promises until he eventually became unavailable.
