Musician-cum-businesswoman, Plaxedes Wenyika says her divorce with Harare businessman Mika Joka three years ago, left her distraught and out of control, but found solace through a “daily self-care routine love language”.

The Wadarirei singer said her skincare business was inspired by her difficult post-divorce experience after parting ways with Joka whom she was married to for 13 years.

On Friday Plaxedes announced that she will on September 24 launch a skincare line called Ini Skincare by Plaxedes Wenyika.

The musician said she created the skincare products in partnership with bio-chemists, who have a strong bias towards skincare.

“Life happens and it happens to all of us. I found myself filing for divorce in June of 2018 and it was granted one week after l turned 38,” Plaxedes said.

“I had decided to live my truth after facing the fact that l had lost self-esteem, I was miserable and it was time to take my power back and happiness into my own hands.

“A new life path decision came with facing a lot of stereotypes and misguided judgments about my worth as a woman in the public space and a public figure. I found my divorce in newspaper articles written in an unflattering light.

“I was never asked or interviewed for my side of the story by the publications. It didn’t help that I was already going through mental, emotional and financial stress and I felt like a failure and walked around with shame.

“As time would have it l found the Queen in me and no outside influence would dissuade me from the life choice l had made. I begun working on myself and got back to my daily self care routine love language, which is soaking and skin care and through it mastered the art of self love.

“My daily bathing ritual became the act of having me-time to rejuvenate myself and spoiling my body with soaps and oils reaffirmed my worth.

“This created a desire for me to get back to beauty care products l once created in 2014 and sold in my shop Munhanga, which l had opened back then to be a feel good haven for women to shop for beauty and lingerie products.”

She said her skincare products were home grown and manufactured by skincare experts.

“We provide scientifically researched and backed targeted skincare solutions, used in daily self care routines,” said Wenyika.

“We exist to demystify and uncover the shroud of secrecy that surrounds how to get great looking skin.

“As Ini Skin Care, we believe in lifting the veil and empowering fellow queens by sharing skin care knowledge and delivering the products straight into their hands.”

The musician  said she believed as a woman, there was need for her to empower fellow women.

“Our ethos is all queens deserve to have access to effective, high quality skincare products that deliver safe results and ultimately real, healthy glowing skin,” she said.

“We believe in queens empowering fellow queens because there is room for all of us to shine.”

Wenyika said their products rise to the occasion by being well formulated, packed with the best ingredients and delivered into the skin in a highly effective manner.

“Our body and bath range delivers this experience seamlessly through our hydrating luxurious glycerine soaps, bath salts, exfoliating body scrubs and rich moisturising body oil,” she said.

“We have an in depth appreciation and understanding of  a queen’s life’s  journey and we aim to be the provider of skincare products that boost their confidence and reaffirm them to  feel beautiful and sexy  in their own skin at all the different stages of life.”

She said their products suit all and sundry including nursing mothers, entrepreneurs, career woman, stay at home mother, as well wife/partner or single.
