Gokwe South Rural District Council (RDC) has acquired service delivery equipment worth US$122 500, a development expected to improve service delivery in the Midlands rural council.
The new equipment includes a front-end loader valued at US$88 000 and two service vehicles bought at a cost of US$34 500.
Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Owen Ncube said the initiative was in line with the government’s blueprint underpinned by the “Call to Action: No Compromise to Service Delivery.”
The theme directs local authorities to be responsive to the development needs of residents and communities as the nation strives to attain an upper middle-income society by 2030.
“This occasion marks yet another important milestone for Gokwe South RDC as demonstrated by its resourcefulness towards the procurement of yellow machines and service vehicles in line with the devolution and decentralisation agenda,” Ncube said.
“I therefore implore residents and corporates to honour their bills as service delivery depends on robust revenue collection.”

Ncube said local authorities were a vital cog in transforming community livelihoods and helping in the growth of the national gross domestic product (GDP).
The minister urged local authorities to address issues of road rehabilitation, potholes, drainage systems, refuse collection, water reticulation and provision of working space for informal traders and small to medium enterprises.
“I, therefore, implore local authorities to ensure transparency and accountability through public consultations and engagements,”he said.
