BULAWAYO, Jul 30, (Southern Eye Live) – A 50-year-old South African national has been sentenced to an effective three- year jail term after he was caught smuggling dagga across the Limpopo River.
Maila Mashabane David was convicted by a Beitbridge magistrate.
The court heard that on May 25,2026, police officers deployed along the Limpopo River received information that David had entered Zimbabwe through an illegal entry point in Beitbridge while carrying dangerous drugs.
Acting on the tip-off, the officers intercepted him and recovered four cobs of dagga weighing 5.23 kgs concealed in a satchel.
The dagga had a street value of US$523.
