Tongogara Rural District Council (RDC) says devolution-funded projects are significantly improving infrastructure, service delivery and economic opportunities across rural communities in Shurugwi.
The council highlighted several development initiatives being implemented under the government’s devolution programme, which are helping to modernise the district and improve the quality of life for residents.
Among the major achievements is the rehabilitation and upgrading of road infrastructure.
The council has partnered with the government and development agencies to improve key road networks, enhancing access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.
Roads linking farming communities to business centres have also been upgraded, facilitating the movement of agricultural produce.
In the health sector, Tongogara RDC has invested in the construction and refurbishment of clinics.

The development of modern health facilities is expected to improve access to healthcare services, particularly for people living in remote communities.
The council has also worked on staff accommodation and supporting infrastructure to ensure effective service delivery.
Education has also received a major boost through the construction of classroom blocks, teachers’ houses and other learning facilities. These investments are aimed at creating a conducive learning environment while addressing accommodation challenges faced by teachers in rural areas.
The council has also expanded water and sanitation projects, including the drilling and rehabilitation of boreholes to improve access to clean and safe drinking water.
Community nutrition gardens supported through these initiatives are helping households enhance food security and improve livelihoods.
To strengthen emergency response capabilities, Tongogara RDC recently acquired a fire tender, which is expected to improve disaster preparedness and response within the district.
The council said the investment will help protect lives, property and critical infrastructure.
Housing development has also gained momentum, with residential stands being serviced to support orderly urban expansion and accommodate the district’s growing population.
Tongogara RDC chief executive officer, Liberty Ncube, said the projects demonstrate the government’s commitment to inclusive development and equitable distribution of resources.
“Devolution funding has enabled us to undertake critical infrastructure projects that directly improve the lives of our people,” he said.
“We are seeing tangible benefits in health, education, roads, water provision and economic development.”
The council further noted that investments in infrastructure are creating employment opportunities for local communities while stimulating economic activity across the district.
Villagers have welcomed the projects, saying improved roads, healthcare facilities, schools and water supplies are bringing development closer to communities that were previously underserved.
