THE Bubi Rural District Council (RDC) has conducted a training workshop for natural resource monitors drawn from various wards across the district as part of efforts to strengthen community-based natural resource management and environmental protection initiatives.

The training workshop was organised in partnership with the Forestry Commission, the Environmental Management Agency and Habakkuk Trust.

The organisations provided technical expertise on environmental conservation, sustainable resource management, environmental monitoring and reporting.

Participants were trained in key areas including the protection of forests and water sources, veld fire prevention, environmental stewardship, data collection and reporting, as well as community awareness on sustainable natural resource utilisation.

Officials said the programme sought to empower communities to actively participate in safeguarding natural resources while promoting sustainable development within the district.

As part of the initiative, Bubi RDC chief executive Patson Mlilo handed over bicycles to the natural resource monitors to improve mobility during field operations.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mlilo hailed the monitors for their dedication.

“I commend the monitors for their commitment to protecting= the environment and encourage them to use the bicycles responsibly in service of their communities,” he said.

Mlilo also expressed appreciation to partner organisations for supporting environmental conservation programmes in the district.

The initiative reflects Bubi RDC’s commitment to strengthening environmental governance and promoting sustainable management of natural resources for the benefit of future generations.
