A 31-year-old Gweru man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for murdering his wife after accusing her of infidelity.
Brighton Kadhlanga of Chinyama Village under Chief Gambiza was convicted by the High Court sitting in Gweru for the murder of his wife, Patience Madula.
The court heard that on Dec. 20, 2025, at about 7 p.m., Kadhlanga returned home from Maguma Business Centre and accused Madula of cheating while she was seated in a kitchen hut with her mother-in-law and the couple’s two-year-old child.
A heated argument erupted, during which Kadhlanga allegedly threatened to kill both his wife and child.
Fearing for their safety, the child’s grandmother fled with the toddler, leaving the couple behind.
The court heard that Kadhlanga attacked Madula several times with a burning log before striking her twice on the head with a three-legged aluminium pot.

She sustained deep cuts to the head and legs, as well as multiple bruises across her body.
Later that night, Kadhlanga allegedly phoned the deceased’s brother and said he intended to kill her over the infidelity allegations. During the call, Madula reportedly told her brother she had been badly assaulted and could no longer walk.
Police attended the scene in the early hours of Dec. 21, 2025, and found Madula dead inside the kitchen hut.
A post-mortem found the cause of death to be brain injury, subarachnoid haemorrhage and severe head trauma.
Kadhlanga fled after the attack but was arrested on Dec. 31, 2025.
The court urged members of the public to resolve domestic disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence.
