THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has announced a major customs rummage sale at the Beitbridge Border Post, with dozens of vehicles and a wide range of confiscated goods set to go under the hammer next week.
The auction, to be conducted by ABC Auctions on May 27 to 29, will see more than 20 vehicles, including luxury cars, minibuses, trucks and utility vehicles, set to be auctioned off, with some payable in United States dollars while others can be purchased in Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).
“ABC Auctions will conduct a customs rummage sale on behalf of Zimra Beitbridge from Wednesday May 27 to Friday May 29 via the ABC Auctions online bidding platform app.abcauctions.co.zw or the ABC Auctions mobile application available on the Google Play Store and Apple Store,” the Zimra read notice.
Among the vehicles listed for sale are a 2006 BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, Nissan Caravan minibuses, Toyota HiAce minibuses, Toyota Regius, Madza MPVs, Mazda Familia vehicles, Chevrolet sport utility vehicles and several trucks and trailers.
A significant number of the vehicles are specifically marked as “Payable in ZiG”, highlighting the increasing use of the local ZiG currency in government-linked transactions and auctions.
Vehicles payable in ZiG include Toyota HiAce minibuses, Toyota ToyoAce trucks, Toyota Regius MPVs, Volkswagen minibuses and several Mazda vehicles.

Others, particularly luxury and high-value vehicles such as the Porsche Cayenne, BMW models and Nissan Hardbody vehicles, require express payment in United States dollars.
Apart from vehicles, the auction includes large quantities of assorted goods seized or forfeited at the border.
Hardware and construction materials listed include wheelbarrows, hose pipes, PVC pipes, cables, plastic sheets, solar lights, porcelain tiles and assorted tools and equipment.
The auction will run daily from 9am to 3pm at the Beitbridge Border Post.
“Successful bidders will be required to complete payment within 48 hours after the close of the auction and collect their goods within a further 48 hours after payment confirmation,” the notice further read.
Zimra also announced another rummage sale scheduled for June 24 to June 26 at Beitbridge Border Post.
Of late, Zimra has been conducting inland check points along the Beitbridge-Gwanda and Bulawayo-Plumtree Road Highways, where many goods were being confiscated, some of which could be under auction next week.
Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion deputy minister Kudakwashe David Mnangagwa recently defended Zimra in Parliament when Matabeleland South Senator Nonhlanhla Mlotshwa questioned the legal basis and function of Zimra’s inland checkpoint in Gwanda, which prompted inland inspections after vehicle clearance at Beitbridge Border Post.
