Bulawayo’s creative industry is set for another boost as Pumula “PLA” Fest, an emerging community-driven music festival, calls on investors and sponsors to support its 2026 edition scheduled for early August.
Founded by Naison Ndlovu, known in entertainment circles as Neezy II, the initiative focuses on creating performance opportunities for up-and-coming artists who often struggle to secure bookings.
“We have noticed that many talented young artists struggle to get booked for gigs. PLA Fest was created to give them a stage and connect them with a wider audience,” Ndlovu said.
The concept was tested in December last year, when the inaugural event attracted over 380 attendees, which was described as an impressive turnout for a self-funded production supported by local arts stakeholders.
Encouraged by that success, organizers are now preparing for a larger edition scheduled for August 8 in Pumula North.
This year’s event is expected to draw between 400 and 550 attendees, targeting young people aged 18 to 35 from across Bulawayo.
However, to scale the festival, PLA Fest is actively seeking financial backing for artist fees, sound and lighting, venue setup, marketing, security, and audience engagement activities.
“We have seen how much talent exists in our communities, but many artists don’t get the exposure they deserve. PLA Fest is about giving them that stage while building something the whole community can be proud of,” emphasised Neezy II.
He indicated that sponsorship is not just about funding an event.
“This is about building a platform for the next generation of artists and showcasing the talent that exists in our communities.”
With preparations already underway and risk management plans in place including an indoor venue to mitigate weather disruptions, Neezy II and his team are confident that this year’s edition will build on previous success.
