Hardrock midfielder Junior Makunike was among the goalscorers over the weekend, netting a brace as the newly promoted PSL side thrashed fellow newcomers FC Hunters 6-1 on Sunday at their fortress, Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe.

The ex-Dynamos and Simba Bhora star, who was making his first start of the season, opened the scoring with a powerful header from a corner kick to hand Hardrock a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Makunike rose highest at the near post, directing a powerful header into the back of the net, leaving Hunters goalkeeper Kelvin Shangiwa and his defence with no chance.

Speaking after the match, Makunike who added his second goal in the second half, revealed it was the first time in his career to score with a header.

“It’s my first time to score a header since I started playing football,” he told the PSL media.

Makunike broke into the PSL in 2022, making his debut under Tonderai Ndiraya at Dynamos.
