The family of the late Nkulumane Member of Parliament (MP) and celebrated poet Desire “Moyoxide” Moyo has set this Saturday as the date for a memorial service to celebrate his life, legacy, and contribution to the nation.
Moyo’s brother, Mphathi, said the family is committed to honouring him as an icon whose work and public service left a lasting impact on both politics and the arts.
“As a family, we are on our toes to make sure this day is properly observed because the man being celebrated was an icon to the nation. We hope everything will go as planned,” he said.
Moyo died on October 10 last year in a tragic road traffic accident along the Bulawayo-Gweru Highway after the vehicle he was travelling in with four other MPs collided with an elephant.
He died at the scene, while the other legislators survived with injuries.
At the time of his death, Moyo was serving as the MP for Nkulumane under the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

He was widely known not only for his parliamentary role but also for his work as a poet, educator and arts advocate, with many tributes describing him as a passionate voice for creative expression and community development.
Following his passing, residents of Nkulumane and fellow leaders described him as a committed public servant who had begun several community development initiatives, with some pledging to continue his vision in honour of his legacy.
The memorial service at his homestead in Filabusi is expected to draw family members, friends, community representatives and political figures who will gather to reflect on his life and celebrate his contribution to the nation.
