Bulawayo is set to receive a major commercial boost with the construction of the Fair Grounds Mall, a new retail development at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) grounds.

The mall is expected to create over 350 jobs during construction and house approximately 40 tenants upon completion.

The Fair Grounds Mall project is a partnership between the government and private sector aimed at revitalising Bulawayo’s economy and infrastructure.

The mall, described as a replica of the Greenfields development model, will feature a mix of retail and commercial spaces designed to create a vibrant environment in the city.

Industry and Commerce minister Nqobizitha Ndlovu said the development reflects growing investor confidence and aligns with national transformation goals.

“The nation is witnessing growth and expansion in the commercial and retail sector as the economy grows into an empowered and prosperous upper middle-income society by 2030,” Ndlovu said.

He described the project as a significant milestone for Bulawayo, noting that it will contribute to urban renewal and enhance the city’s status as a commercial hub.

“Such investments are key in driving industrialisation and broad-based economic growth,” he added.

Once completed, the mall will provide a boost to local jobs and skills development, helping to stimulate economic activity in the region.
