A Bulawayo woman has been sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of dealing in dangerous drugs, including cocaine and cannabis, following a police operation in the city’s central business district.
Lakin Lee Robinson (30), of West Somerton suburb, was found guilty and handed a six-year term. Three years of the sentence were suspended on condition that she does not commit a similar offence involving possession, dealing or supplying dangerous drugs. Her husband, Darian-Lee Kevin Lloyd Jackson (31), was also convicted and is serving an effective four-year jail term after two years of his sentence were suspended.
Prosecutor Hazel Ncube told the court that detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics Unit received a tip-off that the couple was distributing cocaine and dagga using a white vehicle.
Police intercepted the vehicle and recovered sachets of cocaine, dagga, cannabis gummies and cannabis-laced sweets hidden in different compartments.
A search at the couple’s residence uncovered more drugs, including prepared dagga cigarettes and two 20-litre buckets filled with loose dagga.
In total, police seized about nine kilogrammes of dagga and 3.6 grammes of cocaine with an estimated street value running into thousands of dollars.
