Knox Mutizwa, the former Highlanders talisman whose clinical finishing once electrified Barbourfields Stadium, finds himself at a sudden career crossroads after being abruptly released by South African top-flight side Richards Bay FC.

The 32-year-old forward’s departure from the “Natal Rich Boyz” has sent shockwaves through the regional football community, coming just months after he joined the club from Golden Arrows at the beginning of the current season.

Despite providing a respectable return—finding the net four times in 17 appearances across all competitions—Mutizwa was reportedly instructed to leave the club early last week and has since ceased all training activities with the squad.

While the official reasons behind the club’s decision remain unclear, the timing is particularly baffling given that there are only two months left before the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.

Richards Bay had originally recruited the Zimbabwean international to reinforce their offensive line following the high-profile departure of Yanela Mbuthuma to Orlando Pirates, but the partnership has soured far sooner than anticipated.

For the Highlanders faithful, the news has immediately ignited feverish speculation about a possible homecoming for the man affectionately known as “The King.”

Before his move to South Africa, Mutizwa was the undisputed jewel in the Bosso crown, winning the league’s Golden Boot and cementing his status as a local hero.

The prospect of him returning to Bulawayo to lead the line for the country’s oldest club is a narrative that has already begun to dominate local football discussions.

Local pundits suggest that while Mutizwa likely still has the pedigree to find a club in the South African Betway Premiership, the emotional pull of  Emagumeni  (Barbourfields) could be a deciding factor.

“Seeing Knox back in the black and white stripes would be a dream for the fans,” said one Bulawayo-based analyst.

“His experience and leadership would be an invaluable asset to the current Highlanders squad.”

Richards Bay is reportedly planning further changes to their roster, with more players expected to leave before the season’s end.

However, the spotlight remains firmly on Mutizwa. Whether he seeks a new challenge in South Africa or chooses to return to the team where his professional journey began, his next move will be watched closely from both sides of the Limpopo. – iDiski Times
