A BULAWAYO man appeared in court facing a charge of contempt of court after allegedly violating a peace order and verbally abusing his neighbour.

The court was told that Mxolisi Ndlovu urinated on his neighbour’s doorstep before shouting offensive and profane insults in isiNdebele, directed at both the court order and the magistrate who granted it.

The court heard that on February 22, the accused violated a peace order prohibiting him from verbally abusing or disturbing the peace of his neighbour, Orpheus Sibanda.

His actions and language were said to have undermined the dignity, authority and reputation of the court.

The court later fined him US$200 or four months imprisonment in default of payment.

An additional two months imprisonment was also suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
