POLICE have arrested numerous suspects in connection with unlawful possession and cultivation of dangerous drugs following a coordinated operation conducted in various parts of the country.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the law enforcement agency remained resolute in its fight against drug and substance abuse, adding that there will be no safe haven for drug dealers and traffickers.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that the fight against drug and illicit substance peddling and trafficking will continue for the safety and security of Zimbabweans,” he said.

On February 15, 2026, police in Plumtree intercepted a Toyota Quantum vehicle, arresting Msawenkosi Ndlovu (49) and Vengai Chawa (41) for unlawful possession of large quantities of cough syrup.

Authorities seized 5 124 100ml bottles of Bron Cleer cough syrup and 4 170 100ml bottles of Astra Pain cough syrup. The illicit stock  is valued at US$80 000.

The same day, police in Hwedza arrested Emanuel Busemani (28) at Plot 7 Investment Farm, Melfort, Goromonzi for unlawful cultivation of dagga.

In Bubi, Lacken Tshuma (55) and Owner Muleya (32) were detained on February 16 at Inunwa Ranch for similar offences.

Earlier, on February 13, Tinashe Mero Shoko (22) and Elliet Badza (35) were arrested at a house in Garikai, Dulibadzimu for unlawful possession of 100 kilogrammes of dagga, underscoring the widespread nature of illicit drug activities.

Nyathi urged the public to continue co-operating with law enforcement agents.

“We call on the public to provide information on drug lords, dealers, and criminal syndicates involved in drug and substance abuse,” he said.

ZRP encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities through the national complaints desk, ensuring that communities remain protected from exposure to illegal drugs.

Authorities said recent seizures and arrests reflected a co-ordinated strategy by the ZRP targeting drug trafficking networks, illegal cultivation and possession of controlled substances.
