PREPARATIONS for the relocation of Bulilima Rural District Council (RDC) offices from Plumtree town to Ndiweni Centre are on course, council chief executive officer Billiat Mlauzi has said.
In an interview with Southern Eye, Mlauzi said Ndiweni Centre was selected after council realised it offered better connectivity to the district’s wards compared to operating from Plumtree.
“...we have set ourselves a target of less than three years [to complete the relocation],” he said.
“At present, we are sharing offices with the Mangwe Rural District Council in Plumtree, which is not ideal for our operations.”
He said Bulilima RDC was originally based at Ndiweni Centre but was relocated to Plumtree during the local authorities’ amalgamation process, which resulted in the abandonment of infrastructure at the centre.
“There are already structures at Ndiweni Centre that we previously used, including a community hall and other buildings that only require minor renovations,” Mlauzi said. “It is a strategic location that allows easier access to other wards in the district than travelling from Plumtree.”

He dded that the council budget was yet to be approved and that officials were expected to defend it before the responsible ministry next week.
“We are now focusing on social infrastructural development such as clinics and schools, as well as the construction of our administrative offices at Ndiweni Centre, in preparation for the relocation from Plumtree town,” he said.
According to information from council, Bulilima RDC’s strategic plan consolidates key challenges into priority strategic outcomes aimed at achieving its development goals and objectives.
The plan seeks to revive a strong and prosperous local economy, restore reliable and high-quality utilities and infrastructure, provide a safe and secure environment and deliver quality social services in an environmentally-sustainable manner.
