A ZIMBABWEAN, who allegedly killed a countryman on Christmas Day in Botswana last year following a dispute over gold and has been on the run for four months, has been arrested.

Themba Nkosi (29) was recently arrested by Kutlwano police after having been on the run for four months in the neighbouring country, the media in Botswana has reported.

Nkosi was arraigned last week for murder at the Francistown Magistrate Courts.

He was not asked to plead before he was remanded in custody to May 23.

Nkosi is accused of killing Hillary Ntsimanga, a fellow Zimbabwean, whose butchered body was found lying in a bush on December 25 last year.

The reports indicated that Nkosi was arrested in Francistown’s Block 7 location, the same area where Ntsimanga’s body was discovered.

They further indicated that the two Zimbabweans, who were illegal gold miners, had allegedly fallen out leading to the murder.

The reports also said the duo was using Nkosi's detector, who then wanted to deprive Ntsimanga of gold because it had been detected by his machine.

Sources told the media in Botswana that the misunderstanding could have led to Ntsimanga's murder.

Botswana’s directorate of public prosecution officer, Thatayaone Chasara, submitted in court that Nkosi was a potential flight risk.

“The accused is an illegal immigrant who we fear when granted bail might go back to his country of origin,” Chasara submitted.

The court upheld the prosecution's submissions and ordered Nkosi's detention.
