RETIRED City of Harare acting town clerk Phakamile Mabhena Moyo has approached the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) seeking an investigation into to alleged deliberate supplying of information to the police by two individuals arrested last week for fraud involving US$151 000 sale of land.

Mabhena Moyo, represented by Tsunga Bhamu Law International, accuses Desmond Rutsito and Leeroy Manyange of deliberately supplying information to the police that they worked in cahoot with top city officials in selling non-existent residential stands to unsuspecting land  seekers.

Rutsito and Manyange were recently arraigned before the courts on allegations of swindling unsuspecting home seekers US$151 000 in three separate botched stand deals.

They were facing three counts of fraud when they appeared before Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa.

However, Mabhena Moyo has approached Zacc requesting investigations into a case of deliberately supplying false information to the police.

“The false information supplied to the police emanate from allegations of fraud Ievelled against one Desmond Rutsito (42) and Lecroy Manyange (28),” they wrote.

“The false information deliberately supplied to the police is that our client is at large, and he is an accomplice to Edgar Dzehonye, Desmond Rutsito and Leeroy Manyange and that he connived and approached Calisto Murambasvina of Haider Enterprises (Pvt) Lid and separately Munyaradzi Chikusvu, and swindled the two complainants of various amounts totalling plus or minus US$151 000, among other allegations.”

The lawyers said the information supplied to the police was false because Mabhena Moyo was not at large and he has no association with and does not know Rutsito and Manyange.

“He does not know, has never met and has not been involved in any way with any of the complainants or their business representatives.

“The allegations being so made and being widely published are defamatory, false and vile and unduly tarnishes our client’s good name and repute.

“We urge you initiate the investigations so requested so as to prevent abuse of the police as an organisation as well as protect our client and the general public from falling harm to rogue elements who deliberately mislead the police by supplying them with false information.”
