THE government has announced the temporary partial closure of Solomon Mujuru Road, formerly Kirkman Road, to allow for emergency road rehabilitation works to ease traffic congestion.
The closure will affect the stretch between the N Richards turn-off and the Sanganayi Inn junction to allow for essential rehabilitation works aimed at extending the lifespan of the road.
In a statement, the Transport and Infrastructural Development ministry said the road would be partially closed for all-day roadworks and advised motorists and commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.
“Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time for possible delays,” the statement read.
“Please exercise patience, drive with caution, obey all road signs and follow instructions from traffic controllers.
“We regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s co-operation during this essential upgrade.”

The ministry said traffic management measures would be in place, with signage and traffic controllers deployed to ensure smooth flow and minimise congestion.
Authorities said similar rehabilitation works were underway or planned across several urban areas after President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the country’s roads a state of national disaster in 2021.
Government later rolled out the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).
Under ERRP, the government is targeting to rehabilitate 10 000km of roads countrywide, mainly urban and trunk roads.
The majority of the country’s roads are in a bad condition, as a result of years of neglect.
