BY KUDZAI CHITSATSO A NEW talent search platform, Unique Talents in Zimbabwe (UTZ) will this month roll out talent identification programmes across the country in a move that is set to change the face of the arts industry.

Ashley Brenda Moyo, aka Miss Unique is the brains behind the talent search programme, which is similar to the popular America Got Talent where upcoming performers present their singing, dancing, comedy and novelty acts to judges in order to advance in the competition and win prizes.

Miss Unique said the national winners will eventual take their acts to South Africa where they will take part in a regional competition.

She encouraged those interested in registering for the competition, which kicks off in Bulawayo in a fortnight’s time to do so.

“Our talent search show is something, which is similar to America Got Talent,” Miss Unique told Standard Style.

“We will go province by province to identify talent and we have representatives in these provinces.”

Miss Unique said UTZ has engaged local and foreign TV stations to run the talent show.

She said they have approached Zambezi TV and ETV for possible coverage for season 1 of the competition.

“This is not just a talent search project, but it’s another way to end gender-based violence and to curb talent drain in Zimbabwe,” Moyo said.

“As UTZ, we do not discriminate whether you have a disability, orphan or vulnerable. We are an all-inclusive talent search platform.”

“So we are going to start from the grassroots and those who manage to proceed to the next level would face off in the semifinals before the grand finale.”

She said the top 10 would go into a boot camp for grooming with the top three winners proceeding to South Africa to compete in that country’s version of America Got Talent.
