Prominent Mabvuku businessman and miner Tawanda Chidzidzi (41) is leading clean-up exercises in the area in a bid to deal with poor waste management.
He has since mobilised a number of residents in Ward 19 at the same time providing a refuse truck that is collecting garbage at illegal dumpsites in the suburb.
The move has been welcomed by residents following perrenial failures by the city of Harare to collect refuse in most Harare suburbs.
Speaking to Standard Style yesterday, Chidzidzi said he will continue assisting the community with refuse collection.
“I am doin this for the sake of the community,” he said.

“Refuse collection is a problem, hence I had to go this way.
“I hired a JCB and two lorries that are ferrying refuse to legal dumpsites.
“This is not about politics, but we need a clean environment.
“President [Emmerson] Mnangagwa has been on the forefront in cleaning up the environment and we need to compliment that.”
The businessman said he has put aside two trucks that would be used to collect garbage from homes in this area every Tuesday.
“I am using own funds and this is for the love of the community,” he said.
Ward 19 resident Maria Nyamuda (62) hailed the move saying it was long overdue .
“Garbage collection is a crisis in this area and Mabvuku at large,” Nyamuda said.
“The local authority has failed dismally.
“We are happy to have figures and well-wishers who are concerned by our environment.”
