HERENTALS completed a second half come back to fire three goals for a big victory against basement side Tenax in a Castle Lager Premiership tie at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The victory ensured Herentals maintained their good run in the league in which they have not tasted defeat in the past six matches.

The visitors showed a lot of verve from kick off and their dominance saw Lancelot Chakuamba’s shot going just over the cross bar on the quarter hour. Their probing eventually paid off on 38 minutes with skipper Malvern Dumbura thrusting them ahead with a superb header.

However, the visitors’ dominance and lead proved temporary as the home team got into their groove in the second half with Archmore Majarira levelling matters with a simple tap in from a corner kick by Denzel Chimwemwe.

The equaliser appeared to give them more confidence going forward as they benefited from a penalty on 56 minutes after referee Victor Phiri adjudged that Archmore Majarira had been illegally brought down in the penalty area as he prepared to shoot. His brother, Brighton stepped up to take the penalty and he made no mistake, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Substitute John Zhuwawo then scored the insurance goal, planting a downward header into the nets from a corner kick by another substitute Collins Mujuru.

The win lifted Herentals to fifth position on the log standings with 39 points after 25 rounds of matches, while Tenax remained second from the bottom with a paltry 21 points.

Tenax coach Shadreck Magurasave was disappointed with the outcome.

“I am very disappointed with the performance of the whole team. I can’t single out a specific department, we didn’t play well and conceded soft goals. We will have to work hard and am confident we will have a good game in our next match against ZPC,” he said.

Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva was happy with the fightback.

“Three points is very important for us. We started slowly, in attack, there was a bit of complacency in my boys. But Tenax relied on counter attacks and got their goal from a set piece. It was a wake-up call for us and we did well in the second half, we improved and got three goals. If they can continue like that they can be invincible. They respond to every situation and I am happy for them,” he said.
