BY STEPHEN CHADENGA THE United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) Zimbabwe and the Midlands State University (MSU) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing the rights of children.

Speaking at the signing ceremony at the MSU main campus in Gweru on Thursday, Unicef country representative Tajudeen Oyewale said the collaboration will create a platform to facilitate dialogue on topical issues affecting children.

“The purpose of the MoU is to establish a formal partnership between the MSU and Unicef Zimbabwe that provides a platform for the generation and sharing of knowledge about children and child rights,” Oyewale said.

“As we sign this MoU, we are creating a formal framework to promote research and evidence generation to inform policy and practice and facilitate dialogue on topical issues impacting children and the economy.

“It will also allow us to continue advocating for the furtherance of the rights and well-being of Children in Zimbabwe.”

He said the MoU seeks to strengthen MSU’s and Unicef’s “knowledge on children and child rights and their capacity to advocate and influence the policy and legislative environment for improved investments for children”.
