By Brian Goredema Peterhouse were crowned the St George’s College Cabs Smashing Cricket T20 festival champions after they edged St Andrews from South Africa by two wickets in a thrilling final that was decided in the Super Over.
The two teams could not separated after 40 overs as the match was tied with Peterhouse, who were on the canvass as St Andrews chased their score of 158 runs for victory, but managed to strike back with their spinners to force a Super Over
St Andrews openers Zach Micklewright and Alex Griffin started like a house on fire in pursuit of the 158, scoring 66 in the powerplay.
The carnage continued as both batters got to their half centuries without losing a wicket.
Micklewright was the first to go in the 14th over with the score on 128. He was bowled by Sean Bennett for 74 from 43 balls.
But still it looked like from there the result would be purely academic with St Andrews requiring 30 runs from 37 balls.

Griffin tried to go big but became the first victim of Simbarashe Mudimu for 51 off 43 balls.
With both openers in the hut, Petershouse could smell blood.
Bennett took 5-for-21 to force a tie and take the match into a Super Over.
In the Super Over, St Andrews managed to score 13 runs for the loss of one wicket.
Having gotten an opening, Peterhouse were not going to throw away the opportunity to win their third St Georges Cabs Smash T20 crown.
They chased down 13 runs with one ball to spare thanks to two towering sixes from Ross Mills to send the partisan Zimbabwe crowd into a delirium.
They had somehow managed to complete a heist against all odds.
