BY TERRY MADYAUTA WHAWHA coach Luke Petros says he has shifted focus and will now give teenagers a chance to showcase themselves in the Premier Soccer League.

The former Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs defender admits that his side has many shortcomings, but parading young players was top of the team’s agenda.

So far 19-year-old Jayden Barake has given a good account of himself, with six goals in this campaign and is said to be already on Ngezi Platinum’s radar.

The Mapuwa brothers, Denzel Washington and Dibbelar, have also been playing well, while Calum English Brown has emerged as a crowd favourite in Gweru.

Petros’ son, Takudzwa Jukulile is also one of their best midfield performers while rookie goalie Terrence Chiku has edged out the experienced duo of Alexander Useni and Simon Nyama for the starting berth.

“The real potential of the team is in those youngsters. While it is good for us as a team, it will mainly benefit the country which has been lacking robust nurturing at grassroots,” Petros said.

“It might not always be good for us in the league in terms of results, but the performance of young players has lifted our spirits because of their sense of unity and cohesion. The next games against Bulawayo Chiefs and Dynamos will be crucial and I am hoping they will put up good performances and pick points to improve our standing on the log.”

WhaWha is focusing on preserving their Premier League status and get returns from players transfers in the next transfer window.

They thrashed title hopefuls Chicken Inn 3-0 at Ascot Stadium at the weekend.
