HARARE, Apr. 20 (NewsDay Live) — Zimbabwe’s leading golfer Scott Vincent has ignited his 2026 LIV Golf League campaign with a scintillating performance in Mexico City, equalling his career-best finish on the lucrative circuit.
Competing at the historic Club de Golf Chapultepec, the 33-year-old carded a superb 12-under-par total to claim fourth place — matching his previous best finishes in Singapore and Jeddah during the 2023 season.
Vincent’s charge up the leaderboard was built on consistency and a clinical final-round push. He returned rounds of 67, 71, 65 and 69 to finish nine strokes behind dominant champion Jon Rahm.
While Rahm powered Legion XIII to the team title, Vincent remained firmly in podium contention until the closing stages. Spain’s David Puig finished second at 15-under, with teammate Josele Ballester in third.
The fourth-place finish delivered a major financial boost, with Vincent pocketing US$1 million — taking his earnings for the first six events of the season to US$2,289,000.
The result also lifts him to 16th on the Order of Merit, underlining a campaign defined by consistency: one top-10 and four top-20 finishes in six starts, with his worst result a 31st-place showing in Hong Kong.
Vincent’s week was further notable for his elevation into the HyFlyers GC line-up as a stand-in for American great Phil Mickelson, who is sidelined due to a family health matter.
He adapted seamlessly to the team format, helping HyFlyers GC secure fifth place at 17-under-par.
