FC Platinum geared up for Chiefs game

Mapeza said he gave his charges a break and only started training on Monday.

FC PLATINUM are looking forward to a positive result on their return to Castle Lager Premier Soccer League following a two-week break in their tricky tie against Bulawayo Chiefs today.

The Norman Mapeza-coached side made an indifferent start to the 2024 league title campaign, but improved its form before the league took a break.

In May, the platinum miners won four matches and drew one to get to 28 points, just a point behind log leaders Manica Diamonds.

Mapeza said he gave his charges a break and only started training on Monday.

“We started our preparations on Monday and I think everything has gone well with us. I am happy most of the guys who were carrying some knocks have recovered,” he said.

“We are now looking forward to our Bulawayo Chiefs game, which I think is not going to be easy for us. Every time we go to Bulawayo after a week or so after some breaks, we always struggle but I hope with what I have seen from the boys, we will go there and definitely come back with a positive result.”

Juan Mutudza has been on song for the Zvishavane-based side.

One player likely to make a come-back from injury is defender Mbongeni Ndlovu.

May was not a good month for coach Thulani Sibanda and his charges as they lost two games to reigning champions Ngezi Platinum Stars and Herentals and drew three to Chicken Inn, Caps United and Arenel.

Their man-of-the-moment is Never Rauzhi with six goals to his back, at par with FC Platinum’s Mutudza as they chase the leader of the pack, Highlanders’ Lynoth Chikuhwa, who has banged in seven.

Chiefs started the season well, but have since fumbled, dropping to position 11 on the table with 18 points from 14 games.
