Ndiraya raises Vhengere concern

DYNAMOS will be looking to build on their dominance over Black Rhinos in recent years when they travel to Rusape for a tricky Castle Lager Premier Soccer league tie against the army side on Sunday.

Black Rhinos lost their previous encounter away at Bulawayo Chiefs last weekend, while they pulled off a lucky escape to collect maximum points against Harare City.

The Stanford Mutizwa-coached side, which has been one of the form teams in the local league in recent weeks, has failed to beat Dynamos in the league since they recorded a narrow 1–0 triumph in May 2017.

Since then, the army side has managed three draws and three defeats against their more illustrious opponents, but they pose a serious threat to Dynamos’ title aspirations, the latter who trail log leaders FC Platinum by six points at this stage of the league race.

Coach Tonderai Ndiraya says his side derives confidence from its dominance over Black Rhinos in recent years as well as the club’s growing mini unbeaten streak which currently stands at six matches.

“It is really going to be a difficult match. I think we have had interesting duels in the past against Black Rhinos. If my memory serves me right, we have been victorious in most of those duels, but that is history,” he said.

“This is a new game altogether and we have been preparing for this game with all those things in mind. We know Black Rhinos have been doing quite well in their past games.

“Of course, they didn’t do well in their past game when they played against Bulawayo Chiefs, so we want to take advantage of that. We did well in our past game, we have confidence the team has got confidence. I think we have gone for seven or eight games now unbeaten, so we are also deriving our confidence from that background.”

Ndiraya expressed concern about the state of Vhengere Stadium which he feels is a difficult venue to play football in.

“But we understand that it’s going to be a tough match because we will be playing at Vhengere Stadium and we all know what Vhengere Stadium is like. It’s not a very pleasing venue to be playing football in, so we have that in our minds.

“But what is important is for us to go there and do whatever we can to get a result. We have done that before, we got a good result against Tenax in those very difficult conditions, so we are also hoping that we will adjust quickly to those conditions and get a result,” he said.
