Sungura musician Alick Macheso on Friday proved he still rules the roost in sungura music after gave thumbs up to some of the songs on his forthcoming album during his performance at Mandel Leisure Centre in Watsomba, Mutasa district in Manicaland province.
The show was dubbed “Mai Ray Birthday Bash” and was in honour of the joint’s owner Lovemore Mandimutsira’s wife Sylvia.
Macheso’s forthcoming album, the 12th, is expected to be released in June.
The Madhawu hit maker sampled some of the songs on the forthcoming album much to the delight of the fans who appreciated it by taking to the dance floor.
Fans travelled from in and outside Manicaland province, with some even driving from Harare to watch their sungura star live in action.
Macheso’s publicist Tich Makahamadze was impressed with the attendance and reaction of fans to the new songs.
“We would like to thank Lovemore Mandimutsira and his wife for their support and inviting us to be part of their celebrations,” Makahamadze said.

“We gave samples of our new songs and the fans appreciated, we are still working on the songs and no more words that can express our gratefulness for their support.”
Mandimutsira’s wife Sylivia paid tribute to her husband for helping her celebrate her birthday in style.
“I am happy about the show, and we hope to continue to bring the best at Mandel Leisure Centre and continue to grow,” she said.
Baba Harare, who performed on the day, gave a sublime performance with his energetic dancing moves.
Revellers hailed Mandimutsira for bringing some of the best musicians in the country to Watsomba.
“We are happy with Macheso’s show and we are appealing to Mr Mandimutsira to bring the best we have in the country,” said Lloyd Madziyanike.
Jah Prayzah, Jah Master and Freeman are some of the big names in the showbiz industry to have performed at Mandel Leisure Centre.
From Watsomba, Macheso travelled to Chipinge where he performed last night.
