Zimbabwe has handed over the Southern African Development Community (SADC) council of ministers chairmanship to South Africa.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade minister Professor Amon Murwira called for stronger regional solidarity, deeper integration and collective action to drive sustainable development.
“SADC must remain united in pursuing a common future anchored on peace, economic prosperity and shared development, emphasising that the regional bloc should strengthen cooperation among member states to overcome challenges confronting the region.
“The region’s future could only be secured through unity and collective efforts,” Murwira said.
He identified peace and security, industrialisation, infrastructure development and human capital as key pillars for building what he described as a tangible and prosperous SADC future.
“Peace and stability remained fundamental to economic development, as countries could not achieve meaningful industrialisation and investment without a secure environment,” he said
The minister further advocated stronger regional trade and the implementation of collective programmes that can increase economic opportunities for citizens across SADC.
“Infrastructure development should also remain a priority, particularly projects that improve connectivity between member states and facilitate the movement of goods, people and services.”
