HARARE, Jun 9 (NewsDay Live) - A fire broke out at Kutsaga Research Station on Monday, damaging part of its Analytical Chemistry Services (ACS) building and disrupting some laboratory services.

The ACS Building houses analytical services, including soil testing facilities.

In a statement, Kutsaga said the fire occurred in the Sample Conditioning Room within the ACS Building on June 8 and was swiftly contained after emergency response procedures were activated.

"Upon discovery of the fire, Kutsaga immediately activated its emergency response procedures and notified the Fire Brigade and other relevant emergency services," the organisation said.

The research institution said emergency personnel and staff worked together to bring the fire under control before it spread to other sections of the facility.

"We are pleased to confirm that all staff members were safely evacuated and fully accounted for, and no fatalities or injuries were recorded," the research institution said, adding investigations into the cause of fire had started.

"While the cause has not yet been formally established and remains under investigation by the relevant authorities, preliminary indications point to an electrical fault, with nothing to suggest any deliberate or suspicious origin."
