18 feared dead after kombi bursts into flames on Bulawayo–Beitbridge road

BULAWAYO, Apr. 16 (NewsDay Live) – At least 18 people are feared dead after a kombi reportedly exploded and caught fire along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police said the incident occurred between Chipangali and the Gwanda tollgate between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

Preliminary reports indicate about 18 people died in the inferno, although the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.

Emergency services and police have been dispatched to the scene, with investigations into the cause of the explosion and fire underway.

Authorities said further details will be released in due course.

The Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road is one of Zimbabwe’s busiest highways, linking the country to the Beitbridge border post with South Africa.
