Zim, Tajikistan sign geological co-operation pact.

THE  government has approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tajikistan aimed at strengthening co-operation in geological studies.

Speaking in Harare on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services minister Zhemu Soda said Cabinet endorsed an agreement designed to enhance scientific and technical collaboration between Zimbabwe and Tajikistan.

“The MoU seeks to expand and deepen scientific and industrial ties by creating a favourable framework for co-operation and development of scientific and technical partnerships,” Soda said.

He indicated that the agreement will promote knowledge-sharing, innovation and capacity development in geological research and mapping.

“The parties will co-operate through the exchange of ideas, information, experiences and technologies, as well as the exchange of scientists and specialists,” he said.

“The co-operation framework includes conducting joint workshops, scientific conferences and meetings, alongside preparations and capacity building of specialists.”

Soda noted that the partnership will extend to collaborative research activities.

“The MoU provides for joint research projects, which will enhance our geological knowledge base and technical expertise,” he said.

In addition, the agreement emphasises practical exploration work and technological advancement.

“The parties will conduct geological prospecting work and utilise modern technologies for the development of geological maps.

“The agreement allows for other mutually agreed forms of scientific and technological co-operation.”
