A 42-YEAR-OLD Christ Embassy pastor has appeared in court for allegedly defrauding a workmate of US$7 200 in a failed vehicle import deal.
Kudakwashe Singizi was arraigned before Harare magistrate Nyaradzo Manokore facing fraud charges.
The complainant is Ropafadzo Mukanhairi.
Prosecutor Takudzwa Mutyavaviri told the court that on July 16 last year, at Shasha Mall at the corner of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue and Takawira Street in Harare, Singizi allegedly misrepresented that he was an agent for Be Forward and could import a vehicle on Mukanhairi’s behalf.
Mukanhairi indicated she wanted to buy a Honda Vezel. Singizi allegedly advised that US$7 200 was required to import and deliver the vehicle, which she paid in cash. He undertook to deliver it within three months.
When the deadline passed, Singizi allegedly became evasive, gave inconsistent explanations and failed to deliver the vehicle.
The court heard that Singizi later promised to refund the money but did not repay it.
Mukanhairi reported the matter to police, leading to his arrest.
