TRAGEDY struck in Mberengwa when a four-month-old baby fell from her mother’s back during a fight between the parents.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the tragic incident.
He said the couple had since been arrested after it arranged a secret burial for the child without making a police report.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case where a four-month-old died after she fell from her mother’s back during a fight between the parents,” Mahoko said.
“The incident occurred on October 23, 2025 at about 1900 hours at Domboshava in Mberengwa. The now-deceased was identified as Mitchelle Zhou, a female baby aged four months.
“Her parents, Mthandazo Zhou, aged 23 and mother Tawananyasha Zhou, aged 18, both of Domboshava in Mberengwa allegedly had a misunderstanding resulting in a fight.
“During the scuffle, the baby reportedly slipped from the mother’s back and fell to the ground and died on the spot.”
Added Mahoko: “At the time of the arrest, they [couple] was processing a secret burial of the body in Khumalo village under Chief Negove, Gomonhenga in Mberengwa.”
